How to Paint Grainy Oak Cabinets and get a SMOOTH Finish!
Everyone wants to paint their golden oak cabinets. I replaced my doors and drawers, and painted the existing cabinet boxes. I was able to get a super smooth finish by filling the grain using Aqua Coat White Cabinet Grain Filler before priming and painting.

Thanks for letting me know!
Thank you for making this quick video, just what I needed!
Thanks for watching!
I have been using that exact blade on my saw for many years and it makes the best cuts of all the blades I have tried. I also have a 81/4 and a 10 in blade in case I need a deeper cut. But nothing cuts as smooth as the 71/4 40 tooth red blade.
Thanks for sharing your experience here, Richard. Cheers sir.
We have just bought the 24/36 Revo have you had any problems ? just seen one review of the lathe and the fellow had had three heads replaced and some are saying not good with heavy wood . We are in Australia and the wood is really hard and really heavy . Just a bit worried now .
I’m still loving my 2436. No problems for me. I just turned 6 bowls that started out with blanks that were 85-90 pounds apiece. No problems. The lathe is lighter than some 3hp 24” lathes which means that you will have to start a bit slower than you would on a 1000 pound lathe. I started out each bowl at about 270 RPM which is pretty slow but was able to get up to 400 relatively quickly which is a better speed. So, for the money I believe it’s a great lathe.
very interestin pity about the echo
Thanks 🙏
I'm surprised it's not enough for air tools like impact guns.
Gotta watch those tool requirements closely
Can anyone tell me if they still have this f3 after three years hows it looking on the reviews still happy with it
I did not have that one in the shop for very long so I can’t comment on longevity. But hopefully someone else can chime in.
@ToolMetrix so that probably tells me that you did really like the saw much and thanks for the info ☺️
@anthonypalazzolo6181 I loved the saw, actually. But I am a tool reviewer, so I have tools coming through my shop all the time. I don’t have money or space to keep them all. I can’t actually keep most of the tools that I review.
@ToolMetrix ok I didn't realise that sorry so I wouldn't make a mistake if I bought the f3 eventhoug I was looking at the SawStop contractor model but in a much expensive cost and towards the end it was another $450 d for the wheels after I was getting the update fance and the cast iron wings all up was over 45k tha sort of turned me off and the f3 I was saving much more I can still bu the SawStop for that money but at the end I coudnt justify all the value and the compartment I do understand about the safety features but at the same time there's other tools that you can chop your finger off Thank you for the response and I enjoy your videos cheers 🍻
@anthonypalazzolo6181 no I don’t think you would be making a mistake. Both are good saws so I think it mostly comes down to how much the sawstop brake system is worth. If you use a blade guard it probably doesn’t matter much.
What size shank does it use
1/4”
Also using a wormdrive screw, with a VicMark chuck on the outboard side of the headstock, as I start the first cut the rotation causes the wood blank to unscrew. UGH. What am I doing wrong? Obviously there is a lot I don't understand with turning outboard. AND what is also worrisome is the wood blank (approximately 6 in across) seems to have a wobble in it. I took the Vicmark off and did not discern a wobble, but I put the chuck and wood blank back on and it still seems to have a wobble. Yes the wood needs to be cut into round, but then the rotation unscrews the blank. Back to square one. Thank you for your insight. Ed
Hi Ed, It's been a long time now since I did this, but I don't believe that I used a worm screw to start with. I almost always just use a face plate and screws. I've had more problems with worm screws stripping out, which has made them more trouble than they are worth for me. So, I'd suggest just doing that. You'll definitely want to cut the wood as round as you possible can if you are turning a bowl this size on a midi lathe. You don't want your lathe dancing around your shop. It was jumpy enough on this turn, even though I did a pretty good job of getting it round on the bandsaw to start with. Good luck, Paul
Hi Paul. Thank you for all your support and comments. Will keep learning. Be well. Ed
Thank you for the video. Please some advice: I've mounted the 10" ext to the headstock side. When you turn in that configuration, are you in "FORWARD" or "REVERSE" ??? Appreciate your input. Be Well Ed
If you are standing at the front of the machine where the controls are you will run in forward. If you are on the rear of the lathe you will run in reverse. In glancing back at the video it looks like I did a little of each. I don't remember why.
Very thorough review. My company has been at work on a PAPR with an all in one design monocoque manifold. Our aim is a PAPR that's more accessible to the DIY crowd. When we have certification, would you be willing to give it a try to compare? Its called MicroClimate Air3.
Hi Michael, that sounds interesting. There are so many DIY applications for this type of technology, and that market is entirely underserved. Yes, I'd be happy to take a look, even before your certification if you'd like. Looking forward to it. Cheers, Paul
Bosch blue or Makita then dewalt..
thanks for weighing in!
That's a pretty small filter. Doesn't that affect the air flow and suction?
If the filter's clean it won't impede the air flow. If it wasn't for the cleaning mechanism, it might be problematic to have a filter that size. But I believe that the cleaning mechanism keeps it clean which will keep the air flow at a sufficient level, which is the cool thing about the space saving design.
@@ToolMetrix thanks for reply. I recently put a plfux 2/3 filter on my plfux 1 and the air flow was dramatically increased. My pflux actually started whistling. Have a great day!
O som, está com eco.
Thanks for letting me know. My shop does tend to echo.
I love these tools! I have a greenworks lawnmower, weed wacker, impact driver and the drill you reviewed and they all use the same batteries its awesome! Excellent quality too! Next is a circular saw, blower and bradley gun if they make one lol
Thanks for sharing your thoughts here! Sounds like you are a super fan!
Wow, been searching for something safe for weeks and found wetco just to find out it's not...smh.
It's probably safe after a reasonable cure time, which is typically around 30 days for most finishes.
Before you start turning, remove that black mould with proper method. Some recommend strong vinegar, sun light etc
Thanks for watching, and for the suggestion. Cheers
Time for an update
I've been thinking about that, actually.
I recently replaced my 30 year old Ryobi chop saw with a new 12" double bevel compound miter saw and just today made this little jig.... it works PERFECT!! The only thing I did differently was to use double stick tape 80 grit sand paper instead of a rubber pad. The point is this little jog is AWESOME!! Thanks for the idea and sharing your idea. Larry
Hi Larry, thanks for your feedback. The sandpaper suggestion is a great one. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Paul
@@ToolMetrix Hey Paul - glad to know you like the sandpaper idea.. this entire jig is perfect and I've now used it to cut some very small pieces - just added a zero clearance fence to hold the wood against and your jig idea is amazing!.
Do you have any pics of the horses afterprim(ng to see how well this worked?
No sorry I don’t.
Great presentation and explanation... thank you!
Thanks for watching
Excellent points. Thank you!
Thanks for watching 🙏
These are still not for the inexperienced....nice vid...
Thanks for watching. The woodworking is easy, but the electronics and finishing aspects can be a bit intimidating, depending on your experience level.
Totally agree with you. I have not tried the Freud smaller blades, but I use the Irwin Marathons. They work great and are reasonably priced. Not for everything, but for rip cuts these 7 1/4" blades are tops.
Good feedback. Thanks 🙏
Awesome video. Question, does it cut in an angle?
Thank you. Yes, you can tilt the table to cut at an angle.
You're the best at that
Thank you, Amy! 🙏
Wish that I had never bought mine. Assembly was tedious as the manual is little help and the pieces are not labled at all. This video was a lot of help however. Laguna is on my do not buy ever again list.
Wow I’m sorry that you had such a bad experience with your assembly. Thanks for sharing your experience here. Cheers
Very helpful demo of how to install tire. But I wish you'd shown how to remove wheel from saw. I removed nut but wheel seems stuck, and I don't know how to get it off. Thanks
Sorry I didn’t show that. It might take a bit of prying it back and forth to get it loose.
I'm on my second Bosch. I have the one with variable speed, so it was a little more expensive. But, the first one lasted me about seven years before it just stopped working. I thought about going the high-end route with a Mirka or Festool, but just couldn't make myself pull the trigger. Ultimately, I really liked the Bosch. So I made a trip to Rockler and picked up another one. Definitely worth the $80 I paid.
Thanks for the feedback, Todd. I agree that is a good value.
What are your thoughts on using a paint sprayer instead of a roller?
I’m all for it. You can achieve a great surface finish that way.
Nice, concise review. If only it didn't cost more than my saw, but worth it anyway.
Thank you. Yes, good quality and additional safety is rarely cheap.
Are you sure the fingerboard radius is 9.5"? I measured the same kit at 16".
Sorry I don’t recall where I saw that information and I’m not positive.
Wow thanks for this video. I never would have thoguht of using a 7.25" blade on my sawstop cts. But it make s a lot of sense for the work I do, which is usually small miters for picture frames and boxes. I'm concerned about the riving knife situation though. I refuse to use a saw without one, and I'm not sure where to find an alternate for a 7.25" on a sawstop. Anyone else found a source?
I don’t think this will work on a sawstop unfortunately.
I have a piece of red mallee burl and want to do a wing bowl. I will use your directions to do mine. Thanks.
Awesome. Best of luck. Let me know how it goes. Cheers
What about you Sawstop boys. Does this work???
Nope
Will this work after using a stain?
I think it would. I’d put a couple coats of polyurethane or whatever your top coat is, the fill the grain, then a few more coats of top coat. That should protect the stain while you lightly sand the grain filler.
Thanks for the information
My pleasure. Thanks for watching. Cheers
Good to see someone measure the impact. A nice improvement, but I'm still feeling like I need to build a sound insulated closet for my dust collector, they're just too dang loud.
Yep, it would be much better in a closet if you have the space.
PVC is readily available and cost a fraction of the cost of metal.
That’s why I installed it at the time. I haven’t looked at the cost of metal lately but 6” PVC has gone up by about 3X since I installed mine.
Now, how do you deal with Skype
I assume that you mean snipe. If your jointer is doing it you need to adjust it so that it stops. If it is your planer you can sometimes make adjustments in the feed rollers to improve it (depends on the model) but if it persists then send a scrap board ahead and behind your workpiece so the snipe will occur on the scrap piece.
Any problem dyeing the top? I've got the kit but instructions recommend not to dyeing directly.
Hmmmm…interesting. Well, nothing bad happened but I probably didn’t read the instructions closely enough. So they suggest a couple coats of sealer first? If so, you’re probably better off following the instructions than following me. 😃
@@ToolMetrix Well, they suggest a pair of coats of sealer and after that finishing with a colored transparent lacquer.
Good to know. Thanks 🙏
Most of these tools are very to extremely dangerous and you Not be promoting them. They should be BANNED because you can easily be severely injured or killed using them...
Many power tools are dangerous. Table saws and miter saws are among the top injury causing tools, yet many woodworkers still use them without incident every day. Choose your tools according to your risk tolerance and use good safety practices.
A moisture meter only reads the surface. To properly gauge moisture is to weigh the stock from time to time. Soak a piece of wood in water for a few days then start a weighing process experiment.
Moisture meters vary in the depths that they read. Weighing is a good approach as well.
this is genius - easiest way I have found to keep it looking professional while using different strips of wood
thank you, Ken! Cheers, Paul
In the first video, at about 1:40, it looks like the banjo and rest are bouncing around, A LOT. That is much larger than 15" in diameter, so I expect that this is being turned using the bed extension in the lower position, and with the banjo extension. Can you confirm the configuration, and whether or not this is "stable enough" to turn big chunks of wood that are not yet round?
Yep that’s probably a 18-20” x 2” deep bowl, turned outboard using the configuration you mentioned. It’s not ideal but you could do it once in a while. You would not want to turn something of that diameter that was much deeper than that, or super out of round. You’d want to step up to a larger lathe for that.
Something you might want to check: Aqua Coat explicitly says to not use tack clothes in their preparation instructions.
Thanks Eddie. I’ll look into that. No problems so far.
Gonna try this. Mine was run through a drum sander abd and taking me forever to get the tiny scratches out
Yep exactly. You’re gonna love this approach.
Great video. Short and to the point for each drill.
Thanks for watching. Cheers
